About

This page is developed and maintained by Eric Trahan. I graduated from Fort Plain High School in 1980, and continued to live in the Fort Plain district until 1995, when I bought a small farm in the Canajoharie school district, where I still live. My children all attended Canajoharie schools K-12. I served on the Canajoharie school board for 15 years, 1999 – 2014.

The purpose of this page is to share and promote information that the two school districts have not included in their promotion of the proposed merger. This information counteracts the exaggerated potential benefits of the proposed merger as promoted by the districts, and provides factual data on the potential risks. Existing research done on school mergers, and analysis of actual data on past regional mergers, shows that school mergers do not typically lead to lower taxes or necessarily result in better student opportunities and outcomes. And school mergers always have a negative impact on community vitality.

About Facebook: The Facebook page linked on these pages is exactly what it claims to be; a collective administered by a group of anonymous individuals. I am not one of those anonymous individuals. I have no need and no desire to be anonymous, and I do not do Facebook. But I am very glad that there are like-minded people who are on Facebook, doing their own research and sharing their own information. And I am grateful when they share and promote information from this website.
